The skin profile. This is the final stage of acne, which is called severe. Unlike the "mild" and "medium" stages, the lesions (retention and inflammatory) are not only located on the face:they are also found on the back and torso. The causes are the same as for milder acne:heredity, hormonal balance and the action of external factors.
The treatment. There, we recommend going to see a dermatologist but also a gynecologist:significant acne can be a symptom of polycystic ovary syndrome (linked to a hormonal imbalance, it affects 10% of women). The dermatologist immediately prescribes oral antibiotics combined with local medications and skin cleansing, a treatment to be tried for at least three months. If the result is modest, we switch to isotretinoid. This molecule, derived from vitamin A and used in the famous Roaccutane®, is the most effective against severe acne. His action? It greatly reduces sebum production, normalizes cell renewal, is anti-inflammatory and reduces the proliferation of the bacterium P. Acnes, responsible for acne. Extremely powerful, it is accompanied by monthly dermatological monitoring, as it dries out the skin considerably, and… compulsory contraception. Indeed, this drug is not possible for pregnant women, because it causes fetal malformations. The use of isotretinoid is planned for at least six to eight months (it seems long, but it's really worth it).
The skincare routine. Treated skin =irritated (whether by acne medications or topical treatments). On a daily basis, we put the package on hydration with products for dry skin (morning and evening) + a lip balm + a sunscreen. We cleanse the skin in the evening, with a foaming gel or a dermatological bar for sensitive skin.
