Nelson Mandela is launching a clothing line! The emblematic figure of South Africa for its fight against apartheid has indeed agreed to participate in a new ready-to-wear collection. The clothes will be recognizable by the numbers 46664 , which is also the name of its foundation. T-shirts, polo shirts and dresses will therefore bear his inmate number (466) and the last two digits the year he entered Robben Island prison. , i.e. in 1964.
Melson Mandela accepted this project because it will be used to finance his charities, explains Le Figaro . But it is also an opportunity with this project to revive the textile market in the country.
His fight against apartheid and his 27 years behind bars having made the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize an example for the whole world, it is on this symbol that the foundation is betting to sell its products. The t-shirts will be sold at 26 dollars (about 18 euros) and the polo shirts at 86 dollars (61 euros). Initially, they will only be available in South Africa and on the Internet. This market should then expand to Great Britain and the United States.
Note that Nelson Mandela still set a condition to create this clothing collection:his face must not appear on any of the models of the 46664 brand.
