Do you recognize the feeling that you really like certain clothes, but that you don't feel comfortable wearing it? I have a lot of trouble with that myself with some dresses. For example, I regularly check a number of webshops for airy summer dresses. It makes me very happy, but nine times out of ten I don't find anything that I see myself walking in, and I go for a long skirt or jumpsuit.
For example, I also had a collaboration before for a dress that I thought was very cool. I waited with trepidation for the post and I put it on when I arrived. After that I never wore it again. This while it fit perfectly, but I just didn't feel comfortable in that dress. And I often have that with dresses that have a retro touch, whether they are summery or not.
So I can often look enchanted at women who wear such a dress with a vintage look. Beautiful, refreshing and yet a little different, that's what I like best. But every time I put it on myself, I doubt again. And my hubby goes the extra mile… 'that's different isn't it, it doesn't really suit you'. Take, for example, these kind of airy dresses from King Louie. I really like that on others. This makes me think 'oh yes I want that too', but when I put them on myself then I think I look stupid. Do you recognize that? I sometimes wonder if that's because I always wear jeans and a shirt or in a maxi dress when I wear a dress.
How is it possible that I always like these kinds of dresses on someone else and not on myself. Regardless of the physical size of course. Of course I also understand that someone who is very slim simply looks different from someone with my sizes. But also types like me always look great in summer dresses with a retro touch. So it can't be that.
Anyway, I'll keep going and 'nosing' between the retro dresses. And so I found a dress among the airy summer dresses at Topvintage in which I dare to show myself. Again a maxi dress 😉, that is. Not an A-line dress like the one above, but one that I dare to order without being afraid that it will have to be returned because I don't dare to wear it.
It is a bit more chic than my other Ibiza style maxi dress that I like to wear in the summer, but super nice for a party. Very long, so I really have to wear my heels instead of my summer sandals, but hey, that makes it all the way, doesn't it? The next time I wear it I will have a nice picture taken to show it off, promise! I've been looking for a black long dress for some time and I'm completely happy with it!
I also happened to see on Pinterest that there is also a lot of hype going on about making airy summer dresses yourself, similar to those of King Louie. How cute are the dresses below! Maybe I should work on my self confidence after all 😉 . Then I can either start working on my Cricut Maker myself or buy the entire shop at Topvintage, because they have such a fantastic collection there, and I'm not just talking about the maxidresses!
