As you get older, your skin has also had to endure more and that can show. Not only wrinkles keep us busy, visible pores can also occupy our minds.
L'Oreal research shows that nearly half of American women find their pores too large. 28 percent of women are more concerned about her pores than wrinkles. The term 'porexia' was even created for it.
Do pores get bigger with age?
A pore is the tube that belongs to a sebaceous gland. The sebaceous gland secretes sebum to keep your skin supple. When it comes to large pores, it means a wider opening. If you have oilier skin, your sebaceous glands produce more sebum, which widens the opening of the pore. As you age, the skin tissue weakens, causing the pore wall to sag. The older you get, the more visible pores can therefore become. Pores ensure that your skin remains supple and are therefore important. Visible pores are also very normal.
What can you do against large pores?
Take care of your skin. Protect your skin from the sun and do not squeeze pimples. These two things can damage your skin and therefore cause enlarged pores.
You can't permanently shrink your pores, but there are things you can do to make them look smaller or to "maintain" your skin. For example, a peeling with salicylic acid ensures that dead skin cells are removed, thus reducing the risk of clogged pores. You can also opt for a serum with vitamin B or C to take care of your skin.
