Camouflaging makeup does not boost women's self-confidence. American research shows that many women are so insecure that makeup cannot help them.
73 women participated in the study, 66 of which camouflaged their skin with make-up to get rid of pimples, scars and pigmentation † Only seven of them never put on makeup. The study found that women who use makeup are far more likely to be insecure about their skin than those without makeup, regardless of the condition of their skin.
The greater the fear that people would stare at their imperfections, the unhealthier women with makeup felt. Researchers conclude that women who don't use make-up already feel better in their own skin to start with than women who use makeup.
