Have a cloth or towel and brush cleaner handy. If necessary, wipe the worst make-up residue off the brushes with kitchen roll and wet the brushes.
Take a little cleanser or shampoo in your palm and run your brushes through it until all the dirt is gone. Then rinse them well.
Make sure your brushes are in good shape before drying. You don't want a brush with bristles on all sides. Place them on a clean towel until they are dry.
Depending on the size of your brushes, they may take a few hours to dry. You can optionally clean the handles of your brushes afterwards with denatured alcohol.
