Our self-image often differs from how others see us. From an experiment by Dove we can practically conclude that we are more beautiful than we think.
Dove hired an FBI artist to draw seven women. He did not get to see the women, but drew them on the basis of a description. Then a stranger was asked to describe the same women. On the basis of this, the draftsman made a second drawing of the women.
Two portraits
The drawings in which the women had to describe themselves had in all cases become less beautiful than the portraits in which a stranger described them. And not only that:the portraits that were drawn on the basis of the description of a stranger showed more similarities.
