The Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week Foundation is organizing the largest national sustainable fashion event for the sixth time in a row, with recurring themes such as circular fashion, waste reduction and (new textile) innovation. This year, the DSFW will take place from 4 to 13 October 2019. During this edition of DSFW, the public will be taken into what the future of (Dutch) sustainable fashion will be. During these ten days, the DSFW wants to offer sustainable fashion developments, innovations and young designers a stage to the general public, stimulate talent development, provide information about sustainable fashion and connect interested parties. October 3, 2019 opening show:FASHTAINABLE – Tommy Driessen x DSFW
On the eve of the DSFW, Thursday October 3, the week will open with stylist Tommy Driessen's high-profile debut collection consisting of about 40 looks. Driessen has been working as a stylist for various Dutch celebrities for years. Last year Tommy developed his first own designs from his long-standing archive of vintage materials and spectacular fabrics. During the opening of the DSFW, he will show his unique 'sustainability meets glamour' collection, showing that sustainability and fashion are inextricably linked. With this 'FASHTAINABLE' collection, Tommy wants to contribute to the future of Dutch sustainable fashion. Beautiful items are regularly worn only once during red carpet events. To praise the craftsmanship that goes into these pieces, Tommy processes these items into new collection pieces.
October 4, 2019 Future Fashion Show:Weiyu Hung, Tim Dekkers, Sharita Karsten
On Friday October 4, World Animal Day, three upcoming talented designers will show their 14-piece collection during the Future Fashion show. With these collections, various issues from the industry are brought to the attention. For example, the designers present alternatives to animal materials and use disposable materials that can replace the current fast fashion materials. In this way, solution-oriented alternatives are brought to the attention of a large audience and young talent is stimulated. These three designers Sharita Karsten, Weiyu Hung and Tim Dekkers recently completed a fashion education at Willem de Kooning Academy, ArteZ and HKU.
7 October 2019 Business day DSFW x CIRCL
Monday 7 October is the Business day in collaboration with CIRCL. In the field of sustainability, there is still much to be gained in the fashion and textile industry, in terms of raw materials, design, working conditions, etc. The aim of this meeting is to inform and inspire fashion professionals, such as retailers, manufacturers and designers. with stories from practice and workshops that help with the what, how and why in the field of sustainable fashion and textiles. There will also be plenty of opportunities to network and exchange knowledge. Stientje van Veldhoven of the Ministry of Infrastructure &Water Management will give a keynote, Philips Signify and the Sustainability Manager of HEMA will give a lecture and WE Fashion will provide a panel talk.
October 10 'Fashion on the Bon' exhibition in the Resistance Museum
During the DSFW on October 10, the exhibition 'Fashion on the Bon' will be opened in the Resistance Museum. During the occupation there was a great shortage of textiles; already in the summer of 1940 it went on receipt. The exhibition shows how fashion changed during the occupation and how the lack of textiles was dealt with. Among current fashion designers, reuse is a trend. Not because there is a shortage, but because of the realization that we are wasting too much. The exhibition features designs by Viktor &Rolf, Ronald van der Kemp, and Lisa Konno, among others. In addition, young designers from various ROC programs make designs that are inspired by clothing from the Second World War.
In the cities of Amsterdam, The Hague, Deventer, Enschede, Eindhoven, Haarlem, Leiden and Zwolle, the above and more takes place during the week.
