Oh, the winter! While there are many reasons why we love the season (the holidays!), it also comes with its fair share of annoyances. And of course, colder weather also affects your skin. Dry skin is common this time of year — and that dryness can make your skin look worse than it did during the warmer months. But you don't have to wait until spring to show your pretty face. Instead, it's time to pamper your skin. Ready to refresh your dry skin in winter? Follow the skin care routine below and you'll be well on your way.
If you have dry skin, a foaming cleanser may be too much for your skin in the winter. Instead, opt for a facial cleanser with cream. This mild facial cleanser helps to remove all make-up and impurities. It gently exfoliates dead skin cells on the surface and helps improve the smoothness and radiance of the skin. You can use it in the morning and in the evening. Wet your face and lather the facial cleanser with wet hands. Massage it on your skin and then rinse it off.
You know how important it is to moisturize regularly as part of your skincare routine — and if you have extra dry skin in the winter, consider replacing your regular facial moisturizer with a different one. In the morning, use a moisturizer with broad-spectrum SPF. Also apply a moisturizing cream in the evening after cleansing your face.
Facial scrubs can have a number of skin benefits. Try one that removes dead skin cells while also creating a natural glow. Or maybe you feel like a deep cleansing that not only makes your skin feel soft, but also looks purified.
Applying powder foundation to dry skin probably won't look the best. If you have dry skin, powder makeup can only accentuate that. So get a radiant liquid foundation instead. Apply with a make-up blender and create a seamless look using dabbing and rolling motions.
A long, hot shower is not the best idea if you have dry skin. Yes, we know it's the first thing you want to do when it's cold outside, but super hot water can actually strip your skin of essential moisture. Not what you want if you already have dry skin, right? No, we didn't think so! Lower the temperature and shower with lukewarm water. It may not be much fun, but your skin will thank you in the long run!
When it's cold outside, it usually means the air has low humidity. You can prevent this by using a humidifier.
It's not just your face that needs to be hydrated. If the skin on the rest of your body is dry, it's important to moisturize as well. After you get out of the (lukewarm!) shower, apply a body lotion to damp skin. And along with a pair of gloves, keep a tube of hand cream in your bag so you're always well equipped to deal with winter-related drought!
