After a long and hot summer, there is a good chance that your hair is a bit drier than usual. Before you start doing everything in your hair to make it less dry, it is important that you find out exactly how dry your hair is. And let's just have a very simple test for that!
All you need for this test is a bowl of water. Wash your hair with shampoo and rinse well to prevent product residues from lingering in your hair. Once your hair is dry and clean, you can cut a small section of hair (or, if you have long hair, take a tip of your hair) and place it in the bowl of water. Leave the hair in the bowl for two to four minutes and see what happens to the hair. There are three scenarios:
1. Your hair stays on the water (slightly porous hair)
2. Your hair floats (medium porosity hair)
3. Your hair sinks to the bottom of the bowl (highly porous hair)

After you have determined how porous your hair is, you can also find out what you need to do to take care of your hair. We have worked out for you per hair type what you can do best for your hair. Are you reading along?
Hair that is slightly porous has a strong hair cuticle whose scales lie flat and overlap. This hair type repels moisture when you try to get it wet, so there's also a higher chance of leaving behind conditioning product residue. This can make your hair feel stiff and straw-like. Therefore, choose light, liquid products to care for your hair, such as hair milk that does not stay on your hair and makes it greasy.
Do you have medium porosity hair? This means that your hair cuticles are slightly looser, so that just the right amount of moisture can be absorbed and not too much moisture can escape. Although medium porosity hair can hold color and model well, it is important not to style or dye it too much, as this can make it more porous. Occasionally use a deep conditioning treatment with proteins to maintain the moisture levels of your hair.
If you have highly porous hair, it means that your hair loses moisture quickly. Your hair cuticles are damaged and there are gaps between them, which means that your hair absorbs too much moisture and it frizzes faster. It's important to keep your hair well hydrated, so use leave-in conditioners, hair oils, and hair butters to close the gaps between your hair cuticles and help your hair retain the moisture it needs.
