Instead of our regular salon appointments, we're using this time to brush up on some important beauty skills that we can do at home. First:tackling our gray hair! Here are some tips.
Before you try to dye your roots at home, it is important that you understand what your hair color is. Look at the side of the box to determine the color that most closely matches. The biggest mistake many people make is buying a color they want instead of what they actually have. For example, this can make your hair look orange or not match the rest of your hair.
OK, now that you've picked your dye, it's time to color. Keep in mind that “Updating the outgrowth at home takes at least an hour. Up to 30 minutes to apply the dye, then usually about another 30 minutes for processing. Plan your time accordingly (especially if you're busy with other things at the same time).
Step 1:Prepare your spot
Most paints come with gloves, so put them on before mixing your color and take off clothes you don't want to get dirty. Ditto for your towels; we recommend using dark colored towels.
Step 2:Divide and conquer
Use a comb to divide your hair into four sections and then into 2cm strands. Start applying the dye, starting with the most colorfast areas first, which are usually around the temples and crown (i.e. any areas where the color fades the fastest). Grab a handheld mirror to see difficult areas like the back of your head and neck to check to make sure you're getting an even application. Another tip: completely saturate your roots with food coloring; it is always better to overdo it with the dye than to get a patchy color.
Step 3:Rinse and condition to complete Dyed hair gets dry and brittle faster, so be sure to protect your locks with every wash. They don't put that tube of conditioner in the box for nothing.
And when you need a super quick touch-up, powders and sprays are a great temporary option.
