Almost all products in editor Carlijn's cupboard are in a (plastic) tube, bottle or jar. And there are quite a few. Not really sustainable. So she made her beauty routine more sustainable.
More and more brands are offering refillable packaging or giving the option to return bottles to the store, where they are refilled or eventually recycled. Why would you choose a plastic bottle if the same product can also be bought 'naked'? Until recently I told myself that soap from a plastic bottle foams better. Nonsense! You get just as clean from a bar of soap. I now also use a solid cleaner, which saves at least two bottles on a monthly basis.
A concentrated block of hair soap packed with oils, herbs, plant extracts, natural butters and other vegetable ingredients, and without SLS, alcohol, silicones and parabens. A shampoo bar is a natural, packaging-free alternative to liquid shampoo. And sustainable, because although the size suggests otherwise, you can wash your hair about 75 to 100 times with a shampoo bar. It took some getting used to at first, but now I don't want anything else. Shampoo bars are also there for all hair types and problems and do their job just as well as liquid shampoo.
Tip:don't leave your bar in the shower, but keep it dry in a container once.
In the August issue of Santé you will find four more tips to make your beauty route more sustainable.
