If it is generally touted as a summer model, it is because chinos are traditionally made of light cotton. Fortunately for us, a trendy piece is almost always available in all fashions... including winter! In other words ? You will find chinos that are warmer and more suitable for the cold, as well as a thousand tips for wearing them all winter, or almost. Even with the best will in the world, it is better to leave the chinos in the closet when the temperatures go below zero.
In winter, the silhouette thickens:boots or lined shoes, sweaters, under-sweaters, vests, coats, scarves and other caps easily weigh down. A good reason to leave aside, therefore, the wide-cut chinos, in order to freely wear a winter sweater. Preferably choose cuts close to the body, or slightly tightened at the ankles. These will also fit better in ankle boots or high shoes.
Lightweight cotton chinos are not suitable for winter temperatures, no one will claim otherwise! To counter the problem, look for models in thick canvas, or better, corduroy. This men's must-have is starting to appear in the women's department, and if you can't find it, loot the men's department without scruple! Be careful, however, if the shape thickens the lower body, you will have to compensate with warm but fitted sweaters. Choose a milleraies or fine rib, rather than a wide rib.
The consensus is on the classic colors in winter. Navy blue, black, grey, beige or khaki, with a possible incursion towards burgundy… Chinos are no exception, dark shades often being more suited to the color of the sky, our mood and our desire for discretion. Nothing prevents you, however, from shining in mustard yellow velvet this winter! However, avoid mixing more than three colors unless you have mastered the exercise. As for the more daring, they will try the Snow Queen look with white chinos...
In winter, adapt the silhouette to your morphology! As we have said, chinos refine less than slim pants. Favor the superposition of thin layers, therefore, rather than thick materials:better a sweater and a sweater in cashmere than a large sweater in twisted wool. Think of shirts slipped under a V-neck sweater, or thin tights under pants to insulate from the cold. Match the hat to the pants and roll them up, provided you wear high socks and warm ankle boots. Better ? Play on visible socks with jacquard or even Christmas patterns.
