We knew the kohl pencil or lip pencil... We will now have to rely on their extended entourage. For some time now, the pencil format has been diversifying, adapting to all kinds of products and textures:from foundation to illuminator, including eyebrow pencil, jumbo eye shadow or stick-style blush... With the exception of mascara, it is now possible to achieve quick and easy beauty enhancement using only a pencil.
Taylor Frankel, co-founder of the Nudestix brand (available at Sephora) is convinced:the pencil has all the qualities required to become an unbeatable beauty ally. In the closet, powders and tubes, no more collections of brushes of all kinds, our "pencils addict" shares his love of pencils with us.
"To apply makeup, women only need two things:good pencils, and their fingers, she explains. The first are precise and easy to handle, while the second allows you to blend and play with the material according to their desires. They are inseparable. There is nothing more practical than a stick. You can take it everywhere, when you go on a trip or even for a touch-up between two work meetings. Often, they are multifunctional and can make up the cheeks as well as the lips and the eyes too."
The pencil has the advantage of not drying out or greasing the skin. Sensitive or problem skin can therefore trust it with their eyes closed.
Video of the day:To get started without making a mistake, you can, for example, start with the pencils designed for the lips or the eyelids, the most widespread and certainly the most intuitive. For those who are afraid of not knowing how to handle them skillfully, nothing could be simpler:you apply a little material directly with the pencil and then blend with your finger.
For the lips, there are two schools:those which draw the outline and those which are satisfied with a stroke of pencil over the entire surface. The advantage of the pencil in replacement of the lipstick is that it allows to draw the contour then to fill generously. According to Taylor Frankel's advice, for a mouth sublimated in pencil, we start by drawing the cupid's bow (i.e. the hollow in the middle of the upper lip), then we draw the rest of the contours, then we color the rest, being careful not to overload the commissures.
Also, nothing like a good pencil to dress our eyelids. Regardless of the color, whether matte or iridescent, we play on the thickness and intensity of the material... Thanks to the precision of our tool, we pigment our look without weighing it down.
On the complexion side, applying make-up with a pencil is an interesting alternative to classic foundations because the result will be more natural. Covering make-up lovers, on the other hand, will pass their turn. No matter how pigmented they are, even the best sticks will never be able to match the camouflage level of some concealers and full coverage foundations. Finally, choosing the pencil is also choosing a new way of thinking about our makeup.
Sensing the trend, more and more cosmetics brands are embarking on the adventure of the pencil, developing specific ranges:illuminating pencils, contouring pencils, blush pencil... At the same time, new names in cosmetics are offering collections 100 % pencils:in all sizes, shapes and colours, for all women, regardless of their make-up technique and level of expertise.
Since 2014, Taylor Frankel, her sister Ally and her mother Jenny have been betting that pencil makeup will seduce the greatest world. They therefore develop simple products with the idea of offering a new beauty routine in nude, all-purpose colors, inspired by the “no make-up” fashion.
Their promise:natural make-up, easy to achieve thanks to a range of pencils with an elegant design, easy to slip into any handbag or suitcase! Regarding prices, you can afford a "jumbo" lip pencil or a pencil for the eyelids at 19 € or an "all over face" foundation stick for 24 €.
