I was asked by Wecolour to dye my hair myself and use it to test their hair dye. Super fun of course, but I also find it very exciting. I therefore suffered from procrastination a bit and I will explain why later in this blog 😉 . I have now fully completed the test and can discuss my Wecolour hair dye experiences with you in this review! Do you also want to dye your hair yourself? Then be sure to read on!

Let me start with this, then the high word will be out right away. I don't like going to the hairdresser. I also show procrastination here. I would like to dye my hair, but I always think it is such a shame that I spend so long at the hairdresser. In addition, I am (almost) never happy with my haircut when I just come home from the hairdresser, except for a few times. Usually it is stiff and I also see edges on my forehead from the paint that has been used. So often I want to wash my hair right away, or do I just put it on a bun or a headband (paint edges only stand out even more).
And then I hear you think… go to another hairdresser. But that doesn't help either, actually my experiences with multiple hair salons are just the same. I always sit there for a long time, water almost always runs down my neck after washing (irritating) and I have a perfecto cut that doesn't quite suit me. A few days later the haircut is fine though, so they cut really well, but the styling and the care is never to my liking. So…. it is indeed time to dye my hair myself and I did that with Wecolour hair dye.
Then I have to go back years. When I was a teenager I once got it into my head to dye my hair myself. With a little help from my mother, who actually didn't agree that I wanted to dye my hair so young. Shaking her head she helped me anyway, because once I had something in my head, it had to be done. The Wecolour hair dye did not exist then and I also thought that I wanted it lighter in color. So bleach 😉 . Good. Or no, not good actually. I have very fine hair and maybe something went wrong. I ended up with a head with bright orange hair, so I still had to go to the hairdresser to fix things. That was the last time I dyed my hair myself. See you now!
You understand that I was quite tense before I started working with this hair dye. Not because of the Wecolour brand, but something with 'achieved results from the past'. And I still can't honestly say that I really enjoy dyeing my own hair. But practice makes perfect, I am now convinced of that.
There are of course many many brands of hair dye for home use, so why Wecolour? First of all, I think it is important that permanent hair dye to dye your hair yourself is of good quality. No ammonia-smelling sludge that you put in your hair, but a paint that is also caring. And then you're in the right place at Wecolour.
Wecolour hair dye is without ammonia, PPD, parabens, silicones and resorcinol. But what it does contain are natural nourishing ingredients, such as Argan oil and calendula extract. They also indicate that the hair dye has excellent coverage, and I can now confirm that in my review about Wecolour. My gray hair has (temporarily) disappeared.
The whole happening that happens at the hairdresser when you have your hair dyed is actually also on the program at home. At least, if you do it as it is indicated in the explanation. There is a very clear explanation in the hair dye package from Wecolour and I am therefore full of good courage to get started. After I have convinced myself of course because I am still slightly tense. Only when I convince myself that I'll just be home the next day and don't have to go out on the street if it fails, do I open the tube of paint.
As you can see in the description below, the way of dyeing your hair is very clearly explained. In text and with pictures. Can't go wrong you would think. And in fact that is true, although I must confess that I have let go of the way of dyeing hair.
Tip:before you start dyeing your hair yourself, don't forget to oil your forehead and your ears n with, for example, night cream. This prevents paint edges on your head and ears. Also consider an old towel !
Dyeing your hair yourself – on your own – takes patience and skill. And I'm not very good at that first one. After mixing the Wecolour hair dye with the activator, I start dividing my hair to start dyeing. For a moment I feel like a hairdresser, because I can divide my hair with the same brush (with a long point on it). How fun! After distributing and applying the hair dye in the crown, it starts to get a bit more difficult. Strings of dyed hair are falling all over my face because I haven't pinned them up. So I get a little stuffy. Soon I will have a beautiful hair color but the same shade will run across my face!
I try as best I can to divide my hair into strips to apply the paint from the roots to the ends and comb through. Still, I notice that a tuft of dry hair is being pulled in more and more often. Not bad in itself, but it's not so easy to comb through now. And of course I can't reach it well at the back either.
So I quickly went to the chapter on massaging hair dye. I distributed the paint as well as possible over my head and just started massaging the paint into my hair that way. That is a lot easier than dividing that and with the comb through 😉 . That massaging is also in the explanation of the Wecolour hair dye, but I started with it a little earlier and my experience is that that also works fine.
When all the paint is well massaged in, I set the timer to 35 minutes. That's how long the hair dye has to work in. While I make with a cotton ball and some makeup remover my forehead and ears are a little extra clean and when I'm done with that I start my favorite series on Netflix. This is a lot more fun than reading gossip magazines at the hairdresser!
After 35 minutes, the hair dye can be rinsed out. I don't know how others do that when they dye their hair themselves, but I'm just going to take a shower. First wet lightly and lather, then rinse, then wash with shampoo and condition with conditioner.
All in all I think that with the whole ritual of dyeing my hair I about 1.5 hours been busy. From the moment I put the old towel over my shoulders to the moment I dried my hair. So don't think that you can finish dyeing and washing your hair in 45 minutes so that you can still go out afterwards, that's a bit tight.
I can't tell you whether Wecolour is the best hair dye for home use. I didn't have enough experience with dyeing my hair before that. What I can say is that the whole process of dyeing my hair has been better than expected. Despite the fact that I have not done it as strictly as indicated in the explanation and instructions for use, I think that my hair is still beautiful in color.
In addition, my bathroom is still just as ugly as it was before, but it just stayed clean 😉 . My hair is easy to comb and soft after rinsing and using shampoo and conditioner. That shampoo and conditioner smell wonderful too!
The Wecolour hair dye package is complete. It is delivered through the letterbox, contains the hair dye in the color you ordered, with activator and brush comb. You will also find a very clear explanation, plastic gloves and added shampoo and conditioner. So you can get started right away!
I mixed two different colors of hair dye and one of my tubes of hair dye was quite difficult to use. I almost couldn't get the hair dye out (seemed to have dried up a bit) and that's why the tube opened at the back. After reporting this to Wecolour, this was neatly resolved. The other tube went a lot easier luckily and that's how you can normally expect it to be used.
There are also lines with quantities on the tubes. For example, if you only use half the hair dye and half the activator (because you don't need it anymore), you can save the rest for next time. How sustainable and environmentally friendly is that!
Incidentally, I slept with an old pillowcase on my pillow the first night, but this turned out not to be necessary… no color was issued!
Determining the right hair dye color is a party on the Wecolour website. There you can see which colors they have, but also what these colors do for you with a certain type of hair (in terms of gray coverage, but also in terms of brightness with, for example, lighter hair and the like). Complete and complete explanation that provides clarity! Not sure which hair color you want? Then try their tool for hair color advice , super easy and you can immediately see which colors you can choose from!
As exciting as I found it, in the end it was not too bad for me to dye my hair myself. Although I do it less precisely than stated in the manual, I am very satisfied with the result.
In this case I only spent € 19.95 for dyeing my hair at home, instead of about € 75.00 at the hairdresser. I'm totally happy with it and my orange-head trauma is over, haha.
What do you think of the result?
