Did you know that there are plenty of people who wash their hair incorrectly? With these 5 tips to wash your hair you can be sure that you will never wash your hair wrong again. Whether you have long or short hair, your hair needs regular and good maintenance and washing is a regular part of this. Read on and discover my 5 tips to wash your hair like a pro would.

How often should you wash your hair?

One swears to wash his/her every day, while another thinks twice a week is enough. How often you should wash your hair mainly depends on your hair. If you have fine hair, washing three times a week is not only more than enough, but it also prevents your hair from becoming limp and lifeless. Do you want fuller and healthier hair? Then read my 5 tips to get fuller hair with simple adjustments.

For thick and straight hair In turn, washing should not be done more often than every other day. Using a good shampoo is a must to keep hair shiny and manageable. Think of using a shampoo to which argan oil or keratin has been added.

Are you blessed with curly haa Then you can do without washing your hair for a few days. This is because your hair is less likely to produce fat. For curly hair, it is enough to wash your hair twice a week. Preferably use a moisturizing shampoo. Or opt for the Curly Girl method to optimally care for your curls.

Do you have chemically treated hair † In any case, wash your hair no more than once a week. If you feel that your hair or scalp is not clean enough, you can always use dry shampoo, which will not further affect or stress your hair.

For colored hair (is of course also chemically treated) it can be washed twice a week. The more often you wash your colored hair, the faster the color will wash out of the hair, requiring you to re-treat it. By the way, you can color your hair  with natural products  so that there is less stress on your hair and scalp.

Do you have a keratin treatment In any case, use a special keratin shampoo. You can wash your hair every other day, provided you use sulfate-free shampoo. This is really important, because sulfates can rinse the keratin out of your hair and thus undo the treatment.

5 tips to wash your hair

Now that you know how often you can wash your hair, it's time to indicate the best way to wash your hair. Read on and discover my 5 tips for washing your hair.

1. Be careful with the use of your products
Excess harm certainly also applies to the use of shampoo and conditioner. Of course you should not use too little, but using too much shampoo is harmful to your hair anyway. This makes your hair heavy and harms your hair.

Since most shampoos are very concentrated, a small amount is sufficient. If you're wondering how much shampoo you really need, keep the following amounts:
– Short hair (up to maximum chin):1.5 cm (diameter)
– Shoulder-length hair:2.5 cm (diameter)
– Long hair (over the shoulders):4 cm (diameter)

2. Apply shampoo
The way you apply your shampoo and conditioner also plays a major role. Start at your scalp and work toward your ears. This is the part that gets oily first. Massage the shampoo in gently. Working too roughly will not only tangle your hair and make brushing it a chore afterwards, but it can also damage your hair.

3. Use products tailored to your hair type
Not only the amount of shampoo you use is of great importance, your hair type plays an important role in choosing the most suitable product. Visit your hairdresser for a complete hair analysis and let them advise you which products are most suitable for your hair. Incidentally, these do not necessarily all have to be products from the same line or brand. It is important that the products protect your hair and give it shine.

4. Wash your hair twice
Apply the shampoo twice, but make sure you use the right amount. Wet your hair, apply the required amount of shampoo according to the tips given in step 2. Rinse your hair, apply some shampoo again and rinse very well once more. Make sure that all shampoo residue has been washed out of your hair.

5. Apply in the right places
When using both shampoo and conditioner, it is very important to apply the products in the right places. Shampoo should be applied mainly to the scalp up to the ears to get rid of the oiliness, while the conditioner is mainly needed for the ends to give them a healthier look.

Curly girl method

I already mentioned it above, if you have curly hair you should not wash your hair too often. Do you want to take optimal care of your curls? Or do you have a fluff nest, but do you want to turn it into a beautiful curling ball? Then I recommend the Curly girl method. Washing in the right way and using the right products is really important here. For starters, your hair must be clean. You can achieve this by washing your hair once more with shampoo with sulfates. Note:there should be no silicones in the shampoo, they should be removed from your hair.

With the curly girl method you no longer use shampoo, but only conditioner. Most shampoos contain aggressive sulfates, which are disastrous for your curly hair. Instead of washing your hair, massage your scalp with conditioner. Leave a little bit of conditioner in your hair and don't rinse everything out. Preferably use cold water for rinsing. Warm water causes your hair to fluff and shine less. Finally, shape your hair with a leave in conditioner without silicone.
