The best allies? The brush, preferably in boar bristles (it exists in a pocket version for the handbag). Detangling combs (with wide teeth) are also suitable. Avoid classic combs, with tight teeth, which risk getting stuck in the knot. Equally indispensable, the nourishing mask for dry hair.
As their scales are open (=their fiber is not smooth), dry hair is more likely to tangle. Before shampooing, untangle the mane well, because a wet knot... it's very difficult to remove. Wash without rubbing too much, rinse and leave a nourishing treatment on the mid-lengths and ends. Do not attack the knot directly:first, massage the mask, to nourish and detangle the hair. Then brush, gliding from the bottom of the knot to the tip. Rinse well keeping your head straight.
Wring out as much as possible, but not haphazardly:keep your head straight and do not wrap your hair in a towel (turban + head down =immediate return of the knot). This allows you to use the hair dryer for less time, so it dries out less and reduces the risk of tangling the hair. While drying, don't let go:style with your fingers for a natural look or with the brush if you're blow-drying.
With the friction against the clothes (especially if they are made of wool), the hair becomes electric and tangles. In prevention, comb the hair several times a day. If the knot is there, do not wait to get rid of it (otherwise, it may become huge and entrenched). With the brush (+ possibly a detangling spray), brush starting from the bottom of the knot and continue until it has slipped towards the tip and disappeared. Above all, do not pull with your fingers:this risks breaking the fiber and creating split ends.
