Hydrocolloid dressings , initially used to absorb fluid from wounds while creating a protective barrier, may have the same effect on pimples. The bandage draws out oil and pus, until the bandage turns white, with all that it has absorbed. For this to work, TikTok users recommend keeping the bandage on overnight and removing it in the morning. On the Insider website , dermatologist Marisa Garshick , explains "these bandages should not replace acne medication to prevent breakouts, but they can reduce blemishes.
The bandage, being extra large, can cover most of the cheek, chin or forehead. Therefore, when it is dropped on an area without a button , you risk irritating it. Then reduce the size of the dressing, in order to treat only the affected area. Likewise, they do not work on blackheads. Prefer dedicated patches, which contain an active ingredient such as salicylic acid, which helps unclog pores.
Finally, dermatologist Joshua Zeichner , told Insider than hydrocolloid bandages may not be suitable for all types of acne. While they don't do much for whiteheads, he said they're great for drawing fluid out of "red pimples" or cystic acne.
