Walking in heels:tips from a pro

Walking in heels:tips from a pro

Marie Helvin, now in her 60s, has been a model for years. In that time she has discovered many tips and tricks to make walking in high heels more bearable. We are happy to take advantage of her tips.

Sandpaper

Roughen the soles of your new pair of heels with sandpaper or by rubbing them on the street. Shame? Maybe, but at least you won't slip.

Walk in

Always break in your shoes at home. That way you will notice where your shoes are chafing. Then you stick plasters on the painful places, wet your shoes and walk them back in.

Prepare

Prepare before putting on your heels. Twist your ankles and stretch your hamstrings.

Tape

Do you wiggle a lot when you walk in heels? Tape your third and fourth toes together. This gives you more balance.

Deodorant

Before putting on your shoes, spray some deodorant on your feet. This way you will suffer less from sweaty feet and friction.

File

Are there sharp edges on the inside of your shoes? File them off with a nail file and apply a thin layer of Vaseline.

Did you know… The older you get, the thinner the skin under your feet becomes.

Pillows

Don't be afraid to use pads under your feet. Marks &Spencer even has cushioned tights. They also prevent you from sliding forward in your shoes.

Don't make impulse purchases

Don't jump and buy a new pair of heels. Finding the right shoes is a project. You will probably only regret impulse purchases.
