In 2012, shaving by men goes further than just the cheeks and upper lip, according to a national survey by drugstore chain Kruidvat among more than 900 men and women.
One in five men also shave the armpits and pubic area, the so-called body grooming.
More hygienic
The main reasons are that men want to look well-groomed (say 52%) and that they find it more hygienic (27%). According to the research, women applaud this development:64% find it sexy when her husband removes hair from his pubic area. They also find it more hygienic (51%) and more pleasant during sex (42%).
Also the armpit
Body grooming is becoming more and more self-evident among men but also women. 37% of women believe that every man – not just her partner – should wax his armpits; 45% even find armpit hair dirty. Shaving the chest is a lot less popular with men, with one in ten saying that they do this. Only 9% of women find a smooth breast attractive.
