If you are new to the art of the tie and if you do not know which model to choose or how to wear it, then you have come to the right place. Here are some tips for choosing the right tie length.
For some people, wearing a tie is second nature. But for others, it's a completely foreign element of style that you have to know how to tame. If you belong to the latter category, don't worry, you are not alone and there are tips for learning how to wear a tie. Here are, for example, two or three things to know about the length of the tie to adopt.
The belt trick
There is a trick to knowing the perfect length of a tie. Once tied and adjusted around your collar, your tie should come over your belt. The point of the tie must touch the waistband of your pants, but be careful, it must not exceed it.
If you have opted for a tie with a square end (like a mesh tie for example), the end of the tie should come just above your belt, without going over it.
A length that depends on your size
When buying a tie, take care to select the correct length. Because yes, like all other clothes, ties have sizes. If you are less than 1.90 meters tall, prefer a 140 cm long tie.
If you are around six feet tall, then a six foot tie should be ideal. And if you are taller than six feet tall, then you should wear a 160cm tie.
A long tie for double or complicated knots
These tie lengths are standard, but only for single knots. If you plan to make double knots or complicated knots (like the half windsor knot for example), you will surely need a slightly longer tie.
