Focus on matcha and its benefits

Very trendy in recent years, matcha tea is considered one of the most exceptional teas in the world.

Cultivated and prepared in Japan according to a very specific protocol (the famous tea ceremony), matcha tea has many benefits for health, but also for the skin.

What is matcha?

The matcha is a variety of green tea that has been cultivated in Japan for thousands of years. Its particularity comes from the fact that the leaves are not infused but ground to obtain a fine powder , then mixed in hot water according to a specific process.

Matcha tea whose leaves are fully consumed makes it one of the richest teas in antioxidants (nearly 140 times more than a classic tea!).

A few weeks before the tea is harvested, the tea bushes are covered to protect them from direct sunlight and to boost the amino acid content of the matcha tea, allowing for more pleasant drinking and a less bitter taste.

The benefits of matcha tea

Like classic green tea, matcha tea has many benefits on health and on the skin when incorporated into cosmetic care:

Stimulates the immune system

Matcha tea contains catechins and many trace elements such as zinc, iron or even potassium which will stimulate the cells of the immune system and limit the proliferation of viruses and bacteria in the body. A good ally to arm yourself against winter diseases!

Limits cell aging

Thanks to the many antioxidants it contains, matcha tea limits the formation of free radicals responsible for cell aging. It also helps prevent the formation of certain cardiovascular diseases and stabilizes cholesterol levels.

Detoxify the body and skin, another benefit of matcha tea

matcha tea contains chlorophyll, the pigment that gives it its characteristic green color. This pigment has detoxifying properties , good for the body but also for the skin. Drinking 2 to 3 cups of matcha tea a day would help eliminate toxins, limit water retention and purify the body, especially during seasonal changes. In cosmetic care, matcha tea helps regulate sebum production, limits the appearance of imperfections and fights the inflammation responsible for the appearance of certain skin diseases such as psoriasis or redness.

Anti-stress

matcha tea contains theanine, an amino acid with anti-stress action. Drinking matcha tea will therefore have a double effect:it will provide energy thanks to the theine it contains and will help fight against stress at the same time!

How to prepare it properly?

matcha tea is a premium tea aimed at a connoisseur public! Its characteristic taste will not please everyone, and its preparation requires a very precise protocol:

  1. Rinse the matcha bowl with cold water
  2. Pour 1 to 2g of matcha tea according to your preferences into the bowl using a sieve
  3. Homogenize the powder with the chasen to avoid lumps and add 80ml of hot water at 70°
  4. Whisk the powder using the chasen in an “M” or “W” shape quickly to froth the tea and then transfer it to your cup. It's ready!

To sweeten the taste of matcha tea, you can add vegetable almond, soy or rice milk to it to transform it into a matcha latte .

The matcha tea powder is also widely used in the kitchen for the preparation of savory or sweet recipes. It will give a natural green color that will surprise your guests in salads, fish dishes or in desserts such as cupcakes or ice cream.
