Water is an essential resource and in the face of which we are not all equal:millions of human beings do not have access to it. Global water consumption is increasing twice as fast as the population, so much so that according to the UN, in 2025, 2/3 of the population could be living under conditions of water stress. It is therefore more than necessary to preserve it, which implies rethinking the way we use it on a daily basis. And among the gestures that “waste” the most water, there is daily hygiene, in particular the use of shampoos and shower gels, which need to be rinsed off. An observation that challenged the L'Oréal group.
L'Oréal has therefore teamed up with the Swiss environmental startup Gjosa to imagine a low-flow shower head that reduces the speed of the flow while increasing the speed of the water droplets:rinsing is just as effective, but we use up to 5 times less water. Thus, it is possible to rinse the shampoo (whose formula has also been redesigned) with only 1.5 liters of water, compared to the usual 8 liters, which corresponds to a saving of 70%. At the scale of a single shampoo, that's already 6.5 liters saved. On the scale of the billions of shampoos performed every day, can you imagine?! At the moment, the prototype of this pommel is being tested in hair salons in the United States and Africa, and it is already planned that the technology will be deployed on a large scale in professional salons. An initiative that we applaud!
