9 truths about permanent hair removal #3

7/ It's an investment

We're not going to lie to each other, it's a real budget. The prices vary according to the places and the techniques:at the session, the pulsed light is less expensive than the laser (but we need more sessions). as an indication, a bikini hair removal session costs around 60-80 € with pulsed light, 100-120 € with laser. For complete hair removal, it is therefore necessary to count between 500 and 700 €. In comparison, a razor, hair removal cream and wax jar/strips cost between €5 and €10 per month. Going to the beautician is already more expensive:for the armpits, it takes between 5 and 20 €, and for the jersey, we go from 15 € for a classic swimsuit to 60 € for a full. All techniques combined, the budget can therefore range from 180 to… 720 € per year! For having tested it, permanent hair removal brings enormous comfort:you never again ask yourself the question of whether you can wear a bathing suit or just your underwear, the skin is super soft, you never have to ingrown hairs or redness, we are always ready... And all that, we would have a hard time estimating the price!

8/ Permanent hair removal takes time

Yes, it takes almost a year to complete a complete hair removal cycle, whether with laser or pulsed light. Since we only target hair in the growth phase, we expect that we can eradicate 15 to 20% per session. Which means that we will need at least 6 sessions (but it is impossible to estimate at the first session, so we are wary of packages established in advance) for a permanent result + possible sessions of retouch later, if you notice regrowth. Between each session, several weeks are allowed to pass (6 at the start, then 2 or 3 months), to have a maximum of hairs in the growth phase. There is no point in redoing a session when no hair has grown back. The ideal is to start after the summer, so as not to bother with tanning (you cannot use a hair removal machine on skin that has been in the sun for less than a week, because she is actively tanning and at risk of being burned). At the end of the fourth session, we already have much less hair...

9/ It's not painful

Of course, there are always "classic" lasers that burn the hair in a flash and can be painful (Alexandrite or Nd:YAG type). But, often, these lasers are combined with a cold breath which anesthetizes the skin and limits the burning sensation. On the other hand, in recent years, the technology of the permanent pulse (the device achieves a gradual rise in temperature of the hair, by just slightly heating the skin) has been developed:the iPeel, Soprano XLi, Harmony Lite, Harmony XL and , more recently, the MacPeel pulsed light device use it. It's really painless, at worst it heats up a bit. So, if we are afraid of having pain, we find out about the device used and, in any case, during the first appointment, we ask to test it on the skin. If it's really unpleasant, you can apply an anesthetic cream (Hemla type), in a thick layer, at least half an hour before the session (so you get to the doctor's office early).
