Hyaluronic acid is a molecule naturally present in the human body. It is found, for example, in the vitreous humor or in the joints. Its properties are numerous, in particular for the hydration and elasticity of the skin; this is why this substance is very popular in cosmetic surgery. To fight against the signs of aging such as wrinkles, fine lines and lack of skin tone, hyaluronic acid is perfect. This substance can be injected, be concentrated in creams and serums for external use, or be contained in capsules to be swallowed. Hyaluronic acid is very popular with cosmetic surgeons, who largely prefer it to botox, for example. However, the use of hyaluronic acid can have some side effects.
Hyaluronic acid injections can have disastrous side effects, and are not without risks. Rest assured, however, because the rate of complications following an injection of hyaluronic acid is really low. The most common side effect with hyaluronic acid is allergy. Indeed, the treatment undergone by the hyaluronic acid molecule is carried out synthetically. This treatment can cause inflammatory reactions, acute or chronic, more or less serious. It may be itching, skin sensitivity, swelling, redness or bruising. These phenomena subside after a few days. The most disabling side effect of hyaluronic acid is manifested by the appearance of small balls on the skin, where the injections were made. These granulomas do not disappear until several months after the operation. They are unsightly and sometimes painful. Treatment with cortisone or with anti-inflammatories then remains one of the only solutions to relieve the patient.
Of course, before embarking on a surgical operation with hyaluronic acid injections, you must be careful to choose your cosmetic surgeon or your doctor. Make sure that the latter has already performed this type of intervention. Moreover, if you are pregnant, if you are breastfeeding, if you suffer from an autoimmune disease or skin problems, the injection of hyaluronic acid is contraindicated for you. It is recommended to stop smoking at least one week before the injection to avoid any side effects. Aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs should also be avoided.
