In 2016, Dyson launched into the world of beauty by launching Supersonic™, a hair dryer equipped with a V9 motor that blows harder and protects the hair fiber during drying. In 2018, the brand launched Airwrap™, its first styling device equipped with several attachments (including 30 and 40 mm rollers and straightening brushes) to curl, straighten and shape hair. Also equipped with the V9 engine, it creates the curls using the Coandă effect, namely the attraction of the strand of hair around the roller thanks to a very powerful air flow. Thus, we can style our hair without the need to heat the fiber to high temperature. Tempting, right?!
Getting started with the Dyson Airwrap™ is quite easy:just clip a tip to the base, choose the strength of the blower (3 options), the heat (3 levels) and off you go! With the rollers, the Coandă effect is quite impressive:by positioning the device at the level of the ends of the hair, the lock actually wraps itself around it. Well, you have to position it well so that the entire lock follows the movement (and not just 3 hairs, or conversely, not the whole side of the head!). Once you understand the principle, it's quite fun and quite easy to use (except on the back of the head if you are not used to using a styling device). The curls obtained depend on the size of the roller, but you end up with pretty waves that look very natural, without spending 20 minutes on it. The flat brush attachment allows you to dry the hair super quickly while eliminating frizz and giving it a slight movement. The round brush allows you to style and give volume to flat and fine hair. Whichever tip you choose, styling is quick since you start with wet hair and the device allows you to dry AND style at the same time (and that's a real plus). By the way, since we heat less and we go faster, we preserve the hair:they are supple and very shiny, and we found that there was much less frizz than with classic drying.
Dyson Airwrap™ is a very good styling device that keeps its promises and allows hair to be shaped without high heat, thus preserving the hair fiber. Its handling still requires a little practice and, if you are not used to using styling devices, it is not necessarily easier than with another one. The (big) downside is obviously its price, since there are 3 different boxes depending on the tips provided, which are marketed from… 449 € (the box with all the tips is 499 €). Clearly, if you are a fan of brushing or straightening with each shampoo, it is a good investment (especially since the pre-drying tip can completely act as a hair dryer!); but if you are a novice and/or know that you won't use it more than once or twice a month, it's a bit expensive...
