Motherhood brings very big changes, all mothers will agree. Your world is different, you have the responsibility for a little bumblebee and suddenly your days are filled with many activities and less time for yourself.
There is a good chance that you are a little less interested in fashion and your outfit in general. You have other things on your mind and sweatpants dominate the day. Maybe, like me, you have a Sunday legging that is just a little bit neater than the weekday ones. Or I would like to do a jogging with heels, I think that is still a bit fashion-conscious.
Ironing also often falls short and I usually put on my outfit wrinkly, or so I opt for something easy that doesn't need ironing at all... but is also not really 'top of the bill'. That is of course a risky moment when an unexpected visitor comes, but I'll risk it. If necessary, I quickly call out:“Oh I was just about to change my clothes!” and I am saved again 😉 .

So now I am lucky that I can work from home, but what do you do if that is not the case and you have to go to the office. Are you the fashion-conscious type, or have you neglected being completely fashion-conscious since you became a mother?
I was a bit triggered by a reader who asked me this question. She would love to hear from you how you are doing this now. Her exact words:
Still, it's nice to go shopping every now and then. And even if you don't feel like it right after giving birth, after a while it will probably start to itch again to go into the city. You may have less time, but shopping with the stroller is fine in itself. And otherwise you can always make yourself a bit more fashion-conscious online.
Only the challenge often lies on a different level. It is different than before. Whether or not you were a fashionista before becoming a mother, once you become a mother, you are more likely to opt for practicality.
Tip:No time for extensive make-up? No Worries! In any case, use a little mascara and some lip gloss. That's it and it still gives a neater appearance.
And let's face it… not all clothes are as practical when you have kids. I can already see the grubby hands going over a beautiful white blouse for example, gone radiant white, and gone radiant mood. Because if there is one thing that can make you grumpy, it is if you have just behaved fashion-consciously and took your best clothes out of the closet, only to conclude after 10 minutes that you better start wearing something else.
Tights also carry an insanely high risk of ladders if you have children with sharp nails. And stiletto heels are not useful if you have to bend and lift a lot, are they? Add to that a nice black blazer and spitting babies… and the drama is complete.
Online fashion shopping and smart investing is the solution. Not having to leave the house is a clear time saver and by creating a basic wardrobe with items of clothing that you can always combine well, you do not also save time, but you also quickly look tip-top.

Opt for timeless fashion, such as a chic black blazer, neat black pants, a white blouse, a trench coat and of course a beautiful black dress or suit. The famous black dress was designed 90 years ago by Coco Chanel. According to the internet portal Discount Box, the little black dress by Chanel has become an indispensable part of the wardrobe of the modern woman, both in an affordable version and in a beautiful design dress from Givenchy.
Tip:Are you still busy at home and are you already wearing your white blouse? Then put on a cardigan so that the white blouse cannot be smeared by children's hands. You can protect a beautiful black blazer (until you leave the house) with, for example, a scarf over your shoulders.
With this kind of fashion classics (and it doesn't necessarily have to be an expensive variant) you can easily vary to look hip and fashionable quickly, for example with separate accessories such as a designer handbag, jewelry, sunglasses (oversized of course) or separate shoes. Jeans from a good brand as a fashion item are also indispensable and can certainly be called fashion-conscious. That is worth the investment because good quality jeans will give you years of pleasure. If your basic fashion pieces are of a good brand and of good quality, then you can do a bit of smuggling by wearing an affordable shirt.
Finally:Get yourself an easy, yet fashionable haircut. Then you will be ready faster in the morning. The motto:“as long as your hair is right”, still applies. Moreover, you have a good excuse to go to the hairdresser every 4 weeks as a nice moment for yourself, because your hair has to look good 😉 !
